Visiting Roederer With Small Children: What Baby Items Are Allowed (The Clear-Bag Rule)
Bringing an infant or toddler to visit at Roederer? Pack light, and pack exactly to the rules. The facility only allows a short list of baby items, and everything has to fit in one large clear plastic bag. No diaper bags.
Allowed Items
- ✓ Two (2) clear plastic baby bottles
- ✓ One (1) baby blanket
- ✓ One (1) pacifier
- ✓ Three (3) disposable diapers
- ✓ A small amount of baby wipes
For Assessment Center inmates (Units 1, 2, and 3), in-person visitation runs from 8:30am to 3:00pm. Visits are capped at one (1) hour, so plan your child's nap and feeding schedule around that shorter window. Also watch the cutoff: visitors must arrive no later than 2:00pm. Even though visiting continues until 3:00pm, the last visitors are admitted at 2:00pm.
Roederer enforces a clear-bag rule for baby items. Everything you bring for your child has to go into a large clear plastic bag. That's what staff will inspect at entry. Do not bring a diaper bag, and do not bring a baby carrier. Neither is allowed, even if you only plan to carry them through the parking lot.
Search warning: All visitors and their vehicles are subject to search when entering, while at, and before leaving the institution. Refusing a search can mean your visit is denied. If you refuse a search while already inside, you may be detained until law enforcement arrives.
Plan your group size before you go. Roederer allows a maximum of three visitors per table, and children count toward that total.
Staff may search you, your vehicle, or the items you brought for your child at any point during the visit. If you don't cooperate, you can lose visiting privileges or be detained while still at the institution.
- Use one large clear plastic bag - Put every allowed baby item in the same large clear plastic bag so it’s ready for inspection.
- Count items before you leave home - Stick to the exact quantities (two clear bottles, one blanket, one pacifier, three disposable diapers, plus a small amount of wipes).
- Keep it simple and visible - Choose clear bottles and keep wipes in a small, easy-to-check portion so your bag can be searched quickly.
Tip: Expect your clear bag (and your vehicle) to be searched at some point during the visit. Cooperating keeps things moving. Refusing a search can end your visit before it starts.
Plan as if you won't be able to buy anything once you're inside. There's no vending, and visitors can't bring money into the visitation room. Whatever your child needs has to be covered by the allowed baby items in your clear bag.
