Visiting Someone in Reception at Ross (CRC): Special Rules to Know

2 min read Verified from official sources

Visiting someone in reception at the Correctional Reception Center (CRC) works differently than regular prison visits. Before you make the trip, here are the special limits and timing rules you need to know.

Rule: People in reception cannot receive visits during their first 8 days at CRC.

If your loved one just arrived, expect a waiting period before you can see them. Mark the date they entered CRC and count out the full 8 days. This saves you from a wasted trip.

Reception visits are limited by calendar month. Each approved visitor can have up to 2 visiting sessions per month with the incarcerated person while they're in reception.

Limit: A maximum of 5 visitors can visit at one time. Walking children count toward the 5-person total.

These rules matter when coordinating family visits. If multiple people want to see your loved one, decide ahead of time who's using their 2 sessions this month so visits don't get wasted. Count your group carefully before heading in. The 5-visitor cap includes walking children, not just adults.

Reception visiting days are assigned by the last digit of the incarcerated person's ID number. Monday is for IDs ending in 1 or 2. Tuesday is for IDs ending in 3 or 4, plus Mental Health.

  • AM processing window: 8:00am to 9:15am (you must be processed before 9:15am)
  • PM processing window: 11:00am to 1:00pm (you must be processed by 1:00pm)

First, confirm the correct day based on your loved one's ID ending. Then plan your arrival around the processing cutoffs. What matters is being processed in time, not just showing up at the gate. If you're cutting it close to the 9:15am or 1:00pm deadline, you risk being turned away for that session.

Reception visitation at CRC is closed on State Holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and Juneteenth.

Plan ahead: If your visit falls near a holiday, have a backup plan so you don't lose one of your limited monthly sessions to a closure.

For the most current details, refer to the CRC visitation document your family is working from. If anything about timing or access seems unclear, confirm with the facility before you travel.
