Before Your First Visit to Saguaro: What to Bring and What to Leave at Home
Your first visit to Saguaro Correctional Center goes smoother when you show up with the right ID, the right clothing, and as little extra as possible. This guide covers parking, check-in, and security—so you know exactly what to expect.
Bring a photo ID to hand staff at check-in. Saguaro accepts a valid driver's license, passport, state ID, military ID, student ID, or employment ID. Bringing a minor child? You'll need their birth certificate - without it, you could be turned away at the door.
Reminder: Don’t make travel plans until you know you’re approved to visit. The inmate receives a signed copy of the approved visitation list and is responsible for letting visitors know they’ve been approved.
Dress for the visitation room, not just the drive. Underwear (including bras) is required. Hats aren't allowed in visitation - leave yours in the car so you don't have to walk back out after checking in.
Bad weather? Plan your layers carefully. Raincoats and other outerwear meant for inclement weather aren't permitted in the visitation area. Don't show up in something you can't take inside.
Shoes are required, but not every shoe works. Open-toed shoes aren't allowed. Neither are wheeled shoes like Heelys. Stick with closed-toe, non-wheeled footwear to get through dress code without delays.
Security Checks
- ✓ Park and lock your vehicle in the facility parking area.
- ✓ Use designated handicapped parking if you need it.
- ✓ Don’t leave minor children or animals unattended in a vehicle on facility property.
Be ready for a possible vehicle search. Saguaro conducts random searches, and refusing means you won't be allowed on facility grounds. If anything in your car concerns you, deal with it before you arrive - not at the gate.
- Remove your shoes and belt - you’ll need to take them off upon entry.
- Clear the metal detector - you must pass screening before you can enter the visitation area.
Note: If you have a medical condition that prevents metal-detector screening (like a pacemaker or metal implants), bring written documentation from your medical provider - Saguaro requires it for entry.
Pack light - really light. Cell phones, pagers, and other electronics aren't allowed in visitation. Neither are purses, wallets, or carrying cases. Leave these at home or lock them in your car before you walk up to check in.
- ✓ If you’re visiting with a baby, Saguaro provides diapers and wipes; you’ll be required to change your baby with the provided diaper before entering the visitation room.
- ✓ If you need another diaper while you’re in visitation, approach the visiting officer and ask for one.
- ✓ Vending machines accept debit or credit cards only - cash is not allowed.
Previsit Tips
- ✓ Park and lock your vehicle in the facility parking area.
- ✓ Leave your phone and other electronics behind.
- ✓ Don’t bring a purse, wallet, or carrying case into visitation - secure those items before you check in.
Before heading out, confirm you're approved to visit. Your loved one receives the signed approved visitation list and is responsible for letting you know. Then double-check your ID: bring an accepted photo ID for yourself (valid driver's license, passport, state ID, military ID, student ID, or employment ID) and a birth certificate for any minor children.
