How to Get Approved to Visit Someone at Saguaro Correctional Center (timeline & who qualifies)
The approval process starts with the inmate, not you. Your loved one needs to submit a visiting list that includes your full name, address, phone number, Social Security number, and date of birth. Once submitted, the facility sends the list to the Hawaii Department of Public Safety for an NCIC background check. Hawaii DPS returns the results to Saguaro's Security office, where your approval gets decided.
Note: If any of your details are missing, the inmate can’t submit a complete request. Make sure they have your full name, address, phone number, Social Security number, and date of birth.
Not everyone qualifies to visit. If you're on active probation or parole, you'll need written approval before visiting. Former inmates face additional hurdles. You can't visit unless you're off supervision, have a recommendation from your supervising agent, and have prior written approval from the Warden. Former CoreCivic employees also need Warden approval.
Even when a former inmate gets approved, visits are limited to immediate family - parents, siblings, and children only. Co-defendants cannot visit at Saguaro Correctional Center. If you were a co-defendant in the case, you won't be approved.
Note: Some categories require prior written Warden approval before a visit can happen, including former inmates/residents and former CoreCivic employees.
The background check typically takes 2–4 weeks. During that time, Saguaro sends the list to Hawaii DPS for the NCIC check, then waits for results to come back. Once they do, the Chief of Security makes the final call on each visitor. If you're planning ahead, budget that 2–4 week window before you can visit.
You won't hear directly from the facility. The inmate receives a signed copy of the approved visitation list and is responsible for letting approved visitors know. Don't book flights, hotels, or other travel until you're certain you're approved. Wait for your loved one to confirm your name is on the signed list.
