Where to Send Letters, Photos, and Cards to an Inmate at SCI Somerset
Mail to SCI Somerset doesn't go directly to the prison. Pennsylvania DOC routes all incoming personal correspondence through a central processing center, so your letter, card, or photos need to be addressed to Smart Communications' P.O. Box in Florida. Include the institution name (SCI Somerset), your loved one's full name, and their inmate number to avoid delays.
Mailing address format: Smart Communications/PA DOC Inmate Name/Inmate Number SCI Somerset P.O. Box 33028 St. Petersburg, FL 33733
Return Sender Rules
- ✓ Put a full return address on the outside of the envelope, including your first and last name.
- ✓ Use the inmate’s full, correct name and inmate number on the correspondence.
Stick to standard 8½ x 11-inch paper for everything - letters, printed photos, kids' drawings. Avoid anything bound or designed to open like a book. Mail goes through a processing workflow, and booklet-style items are more likely to be rejected or delayed.
Sending photos? Keep it to 25 per mailing. If you have more, split them across separate envelopes - otherwise the whole batch could get held up.
Photo reminder: Original photos can’t be returned to you. After 45 days, original photos that were mailed in will be securely destroyed.
- Use the full inmate number every time - pair it with the inmate’s full, correct name so the mail can be matched to the right person.
- Stick to 8½ x 11 pages - write on or print onto standard letter-size paper.
- Skip bound or booklet-style items - don’t staple into a spine or send anything that opens like a book.
Before you seal the envelope, double-check two things: your full return address (first and last name) is on the outside, and you're sending to the Smart Communications/PA DOC P.O. Box with "SCI Somerset," your loved one's name, and their inmate number.
