SCORE Visit Cancellation Rules: When a Cancel Counts and What to Do
Cancellations at SCORE fall into two buckets - and they're handled differently. If you or the inmate cancel, timing is everything: cancel at least 24 hours ahead and it won't count against you. Cancel with less notice and it counts as a used visit. When SCORE cancels due to a lockdown, safety concern, or other administrative reason, that's different - it won't count toward your weekly visit, and you'll get an email notification.
Need to cancel a scheduled visit? SCORE allows it - as long as you do it at least 24 hours before the visit time. That's the safe window. Cancel a full day ahead, and the appointment won't count as a used visit. Once you're inside that 24-hour window, the rule flips. A late cancellation counts as a visit, even if you never actually connect. If something comes up close to your scheduled time, assume it will count and plan your next booking accordingly.
- ✓ Schedule visits at least 24 hours in advance.
- ✓ Don’t try to book same-day visitation - it isn’t permitted.
- ✓ You can schedule no more than 7 days into the future.
Registration, scheduling, and viewing visits all happen online through Securus. When you sign up, you'll enter your full name, date of birth, and a valid email address. That email matters - it's how you'll receive cancellation notices.
Sometimes the cancellation doesn't come from you or the inmate - it comes from SCORE. The facility may temporarily cancel visits when necessary for safety and security, including during lockdowns. When SCORE initiates the cancellation, it won't count as your weekly visit. You'll get an email letting you know, and you can reschedule.
Note: If the inmate is on disciplinary lockdown, they may not receive visitation privileges. In that situation, visitors are emailed cancellation notices.
- Check your email for the cancellation notice - SCORE sends an email when they cancel a visit.
- Reschedule online through Securus - SCORE does not automatically reschedule cancelled visits, so you’ll need to log in and pick a new time.
Tips
- ✓ Book as early as you can within the allowed window (no more than 7 days out, and at least 24 hours ahead).
- ✓ If you need to cancel, do it more than 24 hours before the visit so it doesn’t get counted as a visit.
- ✓ Make sure you have a valid email address on your Securus registration so you actually receive SCORE cancellation notices.
- ✓ If SCORE cancels the visit, plan on rescheduling yourself online - it won’t be automatically rebooked for you.
Keep in mind: SCORE can temporarily cancel visits for facility safety and security reasons. If you're working around a tight schedule, build in some flexibility.
