How to Schedule Your First Visit at Shelby County Jail (online, phone, or lobby kiosk)

You can schedule a visit at Shelby County Jail three ways: book online at ncic.com, call 1-800-943-2189, or use the Visitation Kiosk in the Shelby County Sheriff's Office visitation area. All three connect to the same scheduling system, so pick whichever works best for you.

All visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Trying to book for today or tonight? The system won't allow it - you'll need to pick a time slot at least a full day out.

You must be approved as a visitor before your visit can happen. Bring a valid, government-issued photo ID - staff will check it before you're allowed in.

  1. Go to ncic.com - this is the online system used to schedule visits.
  2. Follow the prompts to sign in or set up your access - use your current, correct information as you move through the screens.
  3. Find the inmate and choose a time - select an available slot that meets the 24-hour advance requirement.
  4. Finish scheduling - complete the booking so your visit is officially on the calendar.

Prefer to schedule by phone? Call 1-800-943-2189. This connects to the same NCIC system as the website - a solid backup if you're having trouble online or just like handling things over the phone.

How to Schedule Your First Visit at Shelby County Jail (online, phone, or lobby kiosk)

Already at the building? You can schedule in person using the Visitation Kiosk in the Shelby County Sheriff's Office visitation area. This works well if you don't have reliable internet or phone access.

  • Visits scheduled on the lobby kiosk will not begin any sooner than 15 minutes after scheduling is completed.
  • Visits can be scheduled on the kiosk as far out as two weeks in advance.

Note: On-site video visits provided in the lobby are free to both the inmate and the visitor.

Can't find any open times? It might not be you. The system limits each inmate to one visit per week, which can make the schedule look full even when you're doing everything right.

  1. Try a different day or time - if the inmate’s one weekly visit is already taken, the slot you want won’t open up.
  2. Use another scheduling method - if online isn’t cooperating, try scheduling by phone at 1-800-943-2189 or use the lobby Visitation Kiosk in the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office visitation area.
  3. Re-check your booking attempt - make sure you completed the scheduling process and didn’t stop partway through the prompts.
