Before scheduling anything, make sure you're on your loved one's approved visitation list. IDOC staff won't verify your status - not even over the phone. The most reliable way to confirm? Write the incarcerated person a letter and ask them to check.

If you're 18 or older, you'll likely need to complete a Prospective Visitor's Interview (PVI) form (DOC 0148) before your first visit. Legal visitors and government officials are exempt, and you can skip it if you've already been approved through the electronic PVI process. Not sure which applies to you? Handle the PVI first - it'll save you a wasted trip.

Visits at Sheridan Correctional Center are scheduled online through IDOC's VisitIDOC SignUpGenius page. Pick an available time slot and complete the signup to lock in your appointment.

What to Bring

  • Two forms of identification
  • One current state-issued photo ID (for example, a driver’s license or state ID card)
  • If you don’t have U.S. ID, acceptable non‑U.S. citizenship documentation such as a current passport, Visa, or Matricula
  • Documentation that includes your date of birth
  • Your vehicle information (be ready to provide it at check-in)

Arrive at Sheridan Correctional Center at least 10 minutes before your scheduled visit time. That buffer matters - check-in and screening can take longer than you expect, especially if more visitors arrive at once.

At the Visitor Center, you'll go through a body search by officers. Expect a COVID-19 symptom and temperature screening as well.
