How to Schedule Your First Visit at Sheridan Correctional Center (IL)
Your first visit takes a few steps, but it's manageable once you know the order. Use the IDOC tools to confirm the facility, get on the approved list, complete the required first-visit form, then schedule your time online before you head out.
Before scheduling anything, confirm you have the right person at the right location. Use IDOC's search tool to find the incarcerated person and verify which facility currently houses them. This matters because your visit is scheduled based on where they are now - you don't want to drive to Sheridan Correctional Center only to find out they've been transferred.
Make sure you're on the incarcerated person's approved visitation list. The process is straightforward: write your loved one a letter and ask to be added. IDOC staff can't verify whether you're on someone's list, so the person you're visiting is the one who can confirm your approval status and let you know if anything else is needed.
First-time visitors need to complete the Prospective Visitor's Interview (PVI) form, DOC 0148. This applies to all adult visitors unless you've already received approval through the electronic PVI process. Fill it out carefully and honestly - providing false information can get your visitation privileges restricted or revoked.
Want to review the form ahead of time? The DOC 0148 Prospective Visitor's Interview is available online in both English and Spanish. Having it ready beforehand can make your first visit day a lot less stressful.

Even when you've done everything right, visiting privileges can still be denied, suspended, or restricted. Under Illinois Administrative Code, the Chief Administrative Officer can make that call for reasons including security and safety needs, space availability, disruptive conduct (by you or the incarcerated person), abuse of visiting privileges, or violations of state, federal, or departmental rules. Your best protection? Stay calm, follow instructions, and avoid anything that could look disruptive or against policy.
Tip: If you’re traveling a long distance, double-check that your loved one is still housed at Sheridan using the IDOC search tool, and confirm your visit is scheduled through the SignUpGenius system before you leave.
