Staying in Touch with Someone at Sheridan Correctional Center: Mail, Phone, Messaging & Visits
Staying connected with someone at Sheridan comes down to four options: mail, phone calls, electronic messages, and visits. Here's a Sheridan-specific breakdown of each one and how to get started.
There are four main ways to communicate with someone at Sheridan Correctional Center. You can send letters and photos by mail (these get scanned and delivered to their tablet). Phone calls come through and may display a specific caller ID number. Electronic messages go through CorrLinks. And visits can happen in person (scheduled via SignUpGenius) or by video (scheduled through ICSolutions). Each option works a bit differently - here's what to expect.
Sheridan uses a mail scanning process for non-privileged incoming mail. Staff scan the front and back of the envelope plus everything inside - letters, greeting cards, photos - in color. Those scans are uploaded as PDF images to your loved one's Bulletin Board, where they can download and view them on their tablet. The original paper items aren't handed over; what you send arrives digitally.
When someone calls you from Sheridan through ICSolutions, the caller ID may show (779) 214-6761. Save that number in your phone so you can recognize legitimate calls - especially helpful if you screen unknown numbers.
Heads up: IDOC is transitioning phone services from Securus to ICSolutions starting as early as February 3, 2025, on a facility-by-facility basis. A one- to two-day interruption is expected during the switch, so confirm the current setup before you rely on a scheduled call.
IDOC uses ICSolutions' CorrLinks system for electronic messaging at IDOC facilities (except ATCs). To message your loved one, you'll need to register through ICSolutions. Keep in mind: CorrLinks messages are screened and monitored. Stick to everyday updates, encouragement, and practical family information.
Sheridan offers two visit formats: in-person and video. In-person visits are scheduled online through the IDOC SignUpGenius system. Video visitation has moved from GTL to ICSolutions. If you're planning a video visit, you'll set things up through ICSolutions - not the old GTL system.
- Find your loved one’s current location - Use the IDOC offender search tool to identify the person you want to visit and confirm their facility.
- Schedule the in-person visit online - IDOC uses SignUpGenius for in-person visit scheduling.
- Make sure you’re on the approved visitation list - IDOC says you can get on the list by writing your loved one a letter; staff cannot verify for you whether you’re on someone’s list.
You'll need an ICSolutions account for video visits. Once registered, you can schedule visits through their system (IDOC uses ICSolutions for video visitation at all facilities except ATCs).
