Before your first visit to Siskiyou County Jail: what to bring, what to leave in the car, and common reasons visits are denied
Your first visit to Siskiyou County Jail will go much smoother if you know the handful of rules that trip people up. Here's how to pack (and park) so you don't lose your visit.
Visitors must be at least 18 years old. Under 18? You won't be admitted unless you qualify for the narrow exception below.
Minors can visit only if they're immediate family - spouse, son, daughter, brother, or sister - and an adult accompanies them. That last part matters: if a minor shows up without an adult, the visit won't happen.
Prohibited-items
- ✓ Cell phones
- ✓ Cameras
- ✓ Tablets
- ✓ Any electronic device
- ✓ Purses
- ✓ Backpacks
- ✓ Bags
- ✓ Any personal items (including electronic devices like cell phones)
- ✓ Don’t carry or handle these items where staff can see them - if you’re seen with any of them, jail staff will terminate your visit.
Show up looking intoxicated - alcohol or any drug - and you'll be turned away. Arrive sober, and avoid anything that might make you appear impaired, even if you feel fine.
Kids can visit, but supervision rules are strict. If you can't control children in the lobby or during the visit, you may be denied entry. Children cannot be left unattended anywhere in the facility. Bringing another adult helps - one person handles the visit while the other manages bathroom breaks, restlessness, or anything else that comes up.
The jail guarantees at least two visits per incarcerated person each week, totaling one hour. Keep that weekly limit in mind when scheduling - especially if multiple people want to visit the same person.
You can't visit the same person more than once on the same day. Traveling from out of town or coordinating with family? Plan for one visit that day, not separate trips.
Note: All public visits are recorded. Break the rules - you or the person you're visiting - and visitation privileges can be suspended.
Pre-visit-checklist
- ✓ Plan around the weekly visit limits (at least two visits per week totaling one hour per incarcerated person)
- ✓ Don’t plan two separate visits with the same person on the same visiting day (only one visit per day per incarcerated person)
- ✓ Confirm what identification you’ll need before you go (ID requirements weren’t provided here)
- ✓ Leave all personal items in the car, including purses, backpacks, bags, and all electronics
- ✓ Do not bring or handle a phone, camera, tablet, or any electronic device during visiting - being seen with prohibited items can get your visit terminated
- ✓ Arrive sober - if you appear under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you can be denied visiting
- ✓ If you bring children, supervise them closely in the lobby and during the visit; don’t leave them unattended at any time
Reminder: Public visits are recorded. Rule violations can lead to suspended visitation privileges.
