Arrive early enough to check in at the lobby at least 20 minutes before your scheduled visit. That window is part of the process, not extra cushion. Show up too close to start time and you risk missing your visit entirely.

Tip: Need to cancel? Give at least 24 hours' notice. No-shows can result in suspended visiting privileges.

Personal visits last 30 minutes. Get checked in and ready to go so you don't lose any of that time to last-minute delays.

There's also a frequency limit: each incarcerated person can receive one visit per visitation day. If multiple people want to visit the same person, coordinate ahead so you're not trying to stack visits on the same day.

Each visit is limited to two visitors max. Decide ahead of time who's going - showing up with extra people creates problems at check-in.

When you arrive, check in through the lobby and staff will process you for your visit. The jail requires you to be checked in 20 minutes before your scheduled time, so factor in drive time and parking when planning your arrival.

Note: Approved program providers may access the secure side for module visitation, but not during lockdowns or outside visitation hours. This is separate from personal visits.

  • Check in with the lobby at least 20 minutes before your visit time
  • Be ready to confirm who is visiting (personal visits are limited to two people)
  • Follow staff instructions during lobby processing so you don’t delay your visit

Before You Leave Home Prep

  • Plan your day around a 30-minute visit
  • Build in enough time to check in with the lobby 20 minutes early
  • If you need to cancel, give 24-hour notice so you don’t risk losing visiting privileges for missed appointments

One more thing: if you're also sending mail, include the booking number. Sonoma County requires it on all correspondence, and leaving it off can delay delivery.
