Starting September 1, 2025, all non-privileged inmate mail for Sonoma County Jail must go through Pigeonly for processing. There's a hard cutoff shortly after: any non-privileged mail sent directly to the jail after October 1, 2025 will be returned to sender. To make sure your mail gets through, start using the Pigeonly address on Sept. 1 and stop mailing non-privileged items to the jail by Oct. 1.

Some mail still goes directly to the facility, not Pigeonly. This includes privileged mail (like legal correspondence), official documents, and publications such as magazines or newspapers mailed directly from a publisher or distributor to a named incarcerated person. These items should still be sent to the Main Adult Detention Facility or the North County Detention Facility. Check the facility's guidance if your mail falls into one of these categories.

For non-privileged mail going through Pigeonly, the address format matters. Include the incarcerated person's name and booking number, then the facility name with the facility code. Mail it to: PO Box 96777, Las Vegas, NV 89193. Line by line, it looks like this: "Inmate Name – Booking Number" on the first line, "Facility name – Facility code" on the second, then "PO Box 96777" and "Las Vegas, NV 89193."

  • Main Adult Detention Facility = 2000
  • North County Detention Facility = 2001

Reminder: All Pigeonly mail must include the incarcerated person's booking number. Sonoma County has a lookup tool to find this number before you send anything.

Once Pigeonly receives your mail, they open and scan it within 24 hours. The electronic scan goes to Sonoma County Jail for screening before the printed copy is delivered.

  1. Pigeonly prints the scanned mail. After scanning and sharing the electronic scan for screening, Pigeonly prints and prepares the mail for shipment.
  2. Pigeonly ships the printed copy by Priority Mail. The printed mail is sent to the indicated Sonoma County Jail.
  3. The jail receives the shipment. Printed mail is received within 1 to 3 days of shipment.

Pigeonly holds original mail for 45 days. After that, the originals are securely destroyed.

Double-check your addressing: Pigeonly mail needs the booking number, facility code, and the Las Vegas PO Box address. Missing the booking number? Your mail may not be processed correctly.

  • Write the address as: Inmate Name – Booking Number, then Facility name – Facility code, then PO Box 96777, Las Vegas, NV 89193
  • Include the incarcerated person’s booking number on the mailpiece
  • Use the correct facility code (2000 for Main Adult Detention Facility, 2001 for North County Detention Facility)
