Applying to Visit With a Minor Child in Missouri DOC: How to Fill Out the Online Form

Applying to visit someone in Missouri DOC with a child under 18? The online form is quick, as long as you fill out the minor's identification section exactly the way Missouri DOC expects.

This guide covers one specific situation: filling out the Missouri Department of Corrections online visiting application when one of the visitors is a minor (under 18). It does not apply if you're applying for clergy status or if the person you want to visit is restricted to adult-only visits. In those cases, don't use the online visitor application at all. You'll need the offender's Missouri DOC identification number before you can submit the online visiting application. The part that trips people up with a child is the "Identification Number" field. Here's what to do: under Identification Number, choose "other" in the Type field, then enter "NA" in the Number field. Those exact entries are how Missouri DOC wants you to handle the identification requirement for a minor who doesn't have a qualifying ID number.

Note: The online application won't submit without an ID entry. Once you click Finish on a completed application, it's sent electronically to the Institutional Case Manager for processing.

Watch for the fields marked with an asterisk (*) as you work through the form. Missouri DOC requires every one of those fields to be completed. That includes agreeing to comply with visiting regulations, including search, before you can finish the application. Miss a required box or skip the agreement, and you won't be able to submit.

  1. Fill every asterisk (*) field: Go back and confirm nothing required is left blank.
  2. Agree to the visiting regulations (including search): Complete the required agreement section so the application can be finalized.
  3. Click Finish: Once you finish, the application is electronically sent to the Institutional Case Manager for processing.

Warning: Do not use the online visitor application if you're applying for clergy status, or if a minor is applying to visit an offender restricted to adult-only visits. If you're unsure, contact the Institutional Case Manager.
