Missouri Digital Mail: how to send letters and greeting cards to someone at SCCC

Here's the most important thing to know about mailing letters to someone at South Central Correctional Center (SCCC): since July 1, 2022, the facility no longer accepts personal mail directly. All personal correspondence now goes through the Missouri DOC Digital Mail Center, where it's scanned and delivered electronically to the resident. Once your letter reaches the Digital Mail Center, staff digitize it and make it available on the resident's media player. No tablet? The letter still gets scanned, then printed and hand-delivered. Either way, your mail goes through the Digital Mail Center - not the prison mailroom like it used to.

Heads up: Don’t send regular personal letters to SCCC’s facility address. After July 1, 2022, personal mail needs to go to the Missouri DOC Digital Mail Center so it can be scanned and delivered.

To send postal mail that will be scanned for an SCCC resident, use this exact format on the envelope. Even small mistakes - especially a missing DOC ID number - can delay delivery or prevent it altogether. Offender Name and DOC ID# C/O Digital Mail Center-Missouri DOC PO Box 25678 Tampa, FL 33622-5678

  • Write the resident’s name and DOC ID# on the first line
  • Use “C/O Digital Mail Center-Missouri DOC”
  • Address it to “PO Box 25678”
  • Use “Tampa, FL 33622-5678”

Personal letters go through the Digital Mail Center, but certain types of mail are still accepted directly at Missouri DOC facilities, including SCCC. Privileged and legal mail - from courts, attorneys, and similar sources - continues to be delivered the traditional way. A few other items can still be mailed directly. Certified mail is allowed only when pre-approved by the resident's case manager. Publications are permitted if the resident ordered them and they ship directly from a publisher, distributor, or other legitimate vendor. Visitor applications can also be sent by postal mail.

Certified mail rule: Certified mail has to be pre-approved by the resident’s case manager, and personal correspondence is not accepted via certified mail.

If something gets rejected for not meeting policy - whether it's a letter, photos, or other printed materials - both you and the resident should receive notification. The resident can challenge the decision through the offender grievance process. You can request an independent review in writing within 30 days of receiving the notification-of-appeal letter.

Want to send a greeting card? Don't drop one in an envelope and mail it to the Digital Mail Center. Greeting cards sent through the mail can't be scanned and won't be delivered. The one exception: greeting cards purchased and sent through Securus (securustech.net). If you want your card to actually reach someone at SCCC, that's the way to do it.

  • Remember that personal mail is scanned and delivered electronically (or scanned, printed, and delivered if the resident doesn’t have tablet access)
