Setting Up Video Visits for SCCC: on-site (free) vs. remote (paid) and scheduling rules

SCCC offers two video visit formats through Securus: on-site and remote. The difference comes down to where you are. On-site means you use the provider's equipment at the facility. Remote means you connect from your own device wherever you happen to be.

On-site video visits happen at the facility using Securus equipment. They're free and count as no-contact visits. Sessions run in two-hour blocks, and you schedule them through the Securus system.

Remote video visits are the "from home" option - you connect through Securus using your own device instead of going to the facility. You'll need reliable equipment and a stable internet connection. These visits cost $7.95 per 30-minute block and are scheduled through your Securus account.

Before scheduling, confirm you're eligible. You must be 18 or older and already on the resident's approved visitor list. Not on the list yet? Get that approval first - the system won't let you schedule until you're cleared.

  1. Create your Securus account - Remote video visits are scheduled through your Securus account at securustech.net.
  2. Sign in and start a video-visit schedule request - Remote visits are scheduled by the visitor using their Securus account.
  3. Choose an available time and submit - Scheduling runs through the Securus system, which shows you the available visiting times.

Plan ahead. Video visits must be scheduled at least 72 hours in advance through Securus. The system shows available times, so waiting until the last minute can leave you with slim pickings.

  • On-site video visits are scheduled in two-hour blocks.
  • Remote video visits are scheduled in 30-minute blocks and cost $7.95 per 30-minute block.

Video visits are recorded, and staff monitor them for compliance with facility rules. Treat the call like an in-person visit - stick to conversation and follow the same expectations you would face-to-face.

Note: Video visits can be terminated while they’re in progress for violations or misconduct. Prohibited conduct can also lead to suspension or termination of video visiting privileges - and regular visiting privileges may be suspended or terminated too.

Can you get to the facility? On-site visits are free and run in two-hour blocks using provider equipment. Can't make the trip? Remote visits let you connect from anywhere with solid internet, but they cost $7.95 per 30-minute block. For most families, the choice comes down to weighing travel time against cost and convenience.
