What to Bring (and What to Leave Home) When Visiting Southeastern Correctional Facility
A little prep goes a long way at Southeastern Correctional Facility. Bring the right basics, leave prohibited items behind, and you'll get through entry without delays—or bigger problems.
If you’re submitting an adult visitor application, include a legible copy of your photo ID with it. Make sure the copy is clear enough to read - blurred or cut-off copies can slow things down when paperwork is reviewed.
You'll need to register every single time you visit. Bring a valid photo ID and have it ready - don't leave it in the car or buried in a bag you won't be allowed to carry inside.
Note: All visitors are searched when entering an ODRC facility. Bring something that isn't allowed, and you could face a delay - or lose your visit entirely.
Leave electronics at home or locked in your car. Southeastern follows ODRC rules: no cell phones, smart watches, pagers, or two-way radios allowed inside.
Purses, handbags, and backpacks aren't allowed during visits. Travel light and plan to walk in hands-free.
Visiting with a baby? Leave the stroller behind - it's not permitted. Infant carriers are allowed but will be searched like everything else.
You can't hand-deliver anything to the person you're visiting. No packages, letters, money, or printed materials - all of that has to go through the mail. Cash is specifically prohibited on facility grounds, so leave it behind.
- Confirm you’re an approved visitor - only approved visitors may deposit funds to an incarcerated person’s account.
- Use the approved ODRC process - deposits must go through the approved channel, not brought in or handed over during a visit.
Warning: ODRC has zero tolerance for bringing drugs, alcohol, or weapons onto prison grounds. Trying to convey contraband can violate Ohio Revised Code 2921.36.
Before you leave home, check your pockets, bag compartments, and vehicle console. The Declaration of Understanding specifically prohibits deadly weapons (including ammunition), drugs, and alcohol on facility grounds.
Tobacco counts as contraband too. That means cigarettes, loose tobacco, lighters, matches, rolling papers, and rolling machines - anything used to smoke or prepare tobacco products.

Have a pacemaker? Bring medical documentation. Southeastern requires it for metal detector clearance, and having it ready saves time at the entrance.
You can bring prescription medication if you need it during your visit. Keep it limited to what you'll actually use, and be ready to log it at the officer's desk when you check in.
