How to Send Money to Southwestern Corrections Center, IL (IL)
If you're trying to help someone at Southwestern Corrections Center stay connected, the biggest question is usually about paying for phone calls. Illinois IDOC uses ICSolutions for Friends and Family prepaid calling, and a transition away from Securus has been underway, which can affect existing balances.
Friends and family can pay for phone calls at Illinois IDOC facilities by creating and funding a Friends & Family prepaid account through ICSolutions. IDOC began transitioning phone services from Securus to ICSolutions starting as early as February 3, 2025. The switch rolls out facility by facility and takes about two weeks once it starts at a given site. What you need to do depends on where Southwestern Corrections Center is in that timeline.
Note: Securus Advance Connect balances do not automatically transfer to ICSolutions. IDOC recommends keeping enough funds in Securus to cover about one to two weeks of calls during the transition period.
When you set up your ICSolutions account, IDOC recommends entering your GTL Visitor ID to help speed up the approval process. If you'd rather not fund calls through a Friends & Family prepaid account, there's another option: deposit money into the incarcerated person's trust (commissary) account. They can then use those funds to purchase phone minutes through commissary.
Steps to Follow
- ✓ Create an ICSolutions Friends & Family prepaid account so you can pay for calls from an individual in custody at an Illinois IDOC facility.
- ✓ When you register, enter your GTL Visitor ID if you have one. IDOC recommends this to expedite account approval.
- ✓ Add funds to your ICSolutions prepaid account so calls can be billed to your account when the person calls you.
- ✓ If you prefer to have the incarcerated person manage minutes themselves, deposit money into their trust (commissary) account so they can buy phone minutes through commissary.
- ✓ Check whether you still have money sitting in a Securus Advance Connect account. Those funds will not move over to ICSolutions automatically.
- ✓ After the transition is complete, contact Securus to ask about a refund for any remaining balance (IDOC’s transition FAQ lists 1-800-844-6591).
- ✓ During the transition period, keep enough Securus funds to cover about one to two weeks of calls, as recommended by IDOC.
Before you add money anywhere, confirm whether Southwestern Corrections Center has completed the move from Securus to ICSolutions. If you previously funded a Securus Advance Connect account, check what balance (if any) is left and find out the current refund steps through Securus. Those funds do not transfer to ICSolutions automatically.
Verify the current ICSolutions account setup requirements, including whether entering a GTL Visitor ID is still recommended for faster approval. Also confirm which Friends & Family funding options are available for this facility through ICSolutions so you don't put money in the wrong place.
Note: The "keep one to two weeks of Securus funds during the transition" guidance comes from IDOC transition materials and may have been updated since. Check for the most current IDOC notices or facility guidance before deciding how much to leave in Securus.
