Visiting Day Checklist for St. Bernard Parish Jail: What to Bring and What to Leave in Your Car

If you're 18 or older, bring a photo ID every time you visit St. Bernard Parish Jail. Accepted forms include a valid driver's license, state photo ID, active-duty military photo ID, or passport. Staff check ID at every visit - don't assume you can skip it just because you've been before.

ID 2

  • Cell phones
  • Pagers
  • BlackBerries
  • Radios
  • Tape recorders
  • Cameras
  • Video recording equipment
  • Audio recording equipment
  • Other electronic telecommunications devices
  • Controlled substances
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Marijuana
  • Tobacco and tobacco-related items
  • Any food
  • Toiletries
  • Clothing

Note: Drugs, alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco products are banned from the visiting area. Leave them at home - don't even bring them onto facility grounds.

Medication is only allowed if it's prescribed and life-saving - things like nitroglycerine pills, inhalers, or oxygen. Bring only what you'll need during the visit. Let the staff at the visiting desk know you have it when you check in so they can handle it properly.

ID 4

  • Four diapers
  • Two jars of vacuum-sealed baby food
  • Two plastic bottles of milk or juice
  • One change of clothing
  • One baby blanket (maximum width and length not to exceed 48 inches)
  • One clear plastic bag of baby wipes
  • Pack everything except the blanket in a single clear plastic container (for example, a gallon-size zip-lock bag)

Tip: Pre-pack the infant items (everything except the blanket) together in one clear plastic container before you leave home. It makes screening faster and avoids last-minute repacking at the entrance.

Dress with the facility's rules in mind. Strapless tops, tube tops, halter tops, tank tops, and strapless dresses aren't allowed. Midriff-baring shirts can get you turned away too. When in doubt, go with something more covered and straightforward.
