How to Put Money on an Inmate’s Account at St. Charles County (and What Happens to Cash at Booking)
Getting money onto someone's jail account is straightforward once you know the options. At St. Charles County, there are two ways to add funds. Cash taken at booking follows a specific process through release.
You can add money to an inmate's account at St. Charles County two ways: in person at the JailATM kiosk in the corrections lobby, or online through the JailATM website. These are the only supported deposit channels.
Heads up: The JailATM kiosk in the corrections lobby does not dispense cash. Plan your deposit amount accordingly, because you won't get change back.
The JailATM website does more than just deposits. You can also place bail and access video call services through the same platform, which is convenient if you're handling several things at once from home.
St. Charles County no longer accepts mailed money orders for inmate accounts. If one gets mailed in anyway, it won't be credited. It'll either be placed in the inmate's property or returned to the sender. Save yourself the hassle and use the lobby kiosk or JailATM website instead.
Deposits come with a processing fee. Factor that into the amount you send so the inmate actually receives what you intended.
Reminder: The JailATM kiosk does not dispense cash. If you need cash for something else that day, handle that before you arrive.
When someone is booked into the adult detention facility with cash on them, that cash gets collected during booking and placed into an inmate account set up for that person.
At release, any cash remaining in the account is issued on a debit card. If you're helping someone plan for release, let them know to expect a card rather than cash.
Practical Tips Before Depositing
- ✓ Use the approved deposit options: the JailATM kiosk in the corrections lobby or the JailATM website.
- ✓ If you are depositing at the lobby kiosk, remember it does not dispense cash back.
- ✓ Expect a processing fee when you deposit money, and factor that into the amount you choose to add.
Need to handle bail or set up video calls too? The JailATM website lets you take care of all of that in the same place you add funds. The lobby kiosk works for deposits, but it won't help with those other tasks.
