Before Your First Visit to St. Louis Justice Center: Arrival and Registration Checklist

Before you make the trip, confirm you're on the approved visitor list. At the St. Louis Justice Center, only pre-approved adults can visit - and that approval is tied to a Visitor Request Form. When someone submits the form, a Criminal History Record Check gets run as part of the process. Being a spouse, parent, or close friend doesn't automatically mean you can walk in.

  1. Call the Case Worker line - Dial (314) 621-5848.
  2. Give the inmate’s name to the operator - Ask to be transferred to the correct Case Worker.
  3. Confirm your approval status before you travel - This is the quickest way to avoid being turned away at the door.

Note: Each inmate receives five (5) Visitor Request Forms to mail to the family or friends they choose.

Get there about 15 minutes before your scheduled visiting time. You'll need that buffer to register and be ready when the visit starts.

Time matters: Visiting periods begin promptly, and late arrivals are not permitted to visit.

Registration happens right before your scheduled visit. Staff will verify you're pre-approved and complete the visitor registration process - so don't treat your scheduled time as the time to pull into the parking lot. Build in that 15-minute cushion to register and still start on time.

  1. Call ahead before your first visit - Dial (314) 621-5848.
  2. Ask for the correct Case Worker - Give the operator the inmate’s name so you can be transferred.
  3. Confirm what you should bring for registration - Get the details directly from the Case Worker so you don’t lose your visit due to a paperwork issue.

Social visits are available Monday through Sunday between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Each visit lasts one hour. The inmate controls the request - they're allowed one social visit per week and must request it two (2) days in advance through their Housing Unit Officer. If you're planning travel or childcare, that advance-notice rule is why last-minute visits usually don't work.

Late means no visit: Visiting periods begin promptly, and late arrivals will not be allowed to visit.

You can bring children, but only under specific conditions. Kids may visit only when accompanied by a pre-approved adult. Make sure whoever is bringing them is already cleared before you plan the trip.

  • Make sure the adult bringing the child is pre-approved to visit.
  • Confirm the visit details with the Case Worker before you go.
  • Plan to keep minor children accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times while visiting.

Sometimes you do everything right and still can't get a visit. One common reason: housing status. If the inmate is in disciplinary segregation, they're not eligible for social visits. If you're turned away after arriving, ask the Case Worker whether disciplinary segregation is the reason.
