Arriving at Stanley CI for Your Visit: Timing, Check-In, and What to Bring

Don't show up too early. Stanley CI follows Wisconsin DOC guidance that visitors should arrive no more than 15 minutes before visiting hours begin. Getting there much earlier won't help - and it could work against you.

Visiting hours at Stanley CI are split into blocks. Monday through Friday (except Wednesday): 2:30 pm–5:15 pm and 5:45 pm–8:30 pm. Weekends and holidays: 8:00 am–10:00 am, 11:00 am–1:00 pm, and 1:30 pm–3:30 pm.

Reminder: Visitors will not be admitted within 30 minutes of the scheduled visit end time, even if you’re already on your way.

The visiting lobby closes during certain windows. On weekdays, it's closed 4:15 pm–5:00 pm. On weekends and holidays, 12:00 noon–1:00 pm. If you arrive during these times, you'll have to wait until it reopens to check in.

These lobby closures matter more than you might think. Stanley CI won't admit anyone within 30 minutes of when the visit is scheduled to end. Arrive too late - especially near the end of a time block - and you could lose your visit entirely.

At the lobby, you may need to fill out a DOC-176 (Request to Visit Offender). Staff might also give you a hand stamp - they'll check it when you enter and leave secure areas. Don't wash it off during your visit.

If you’re 16 or older, bring photo identification and keep it ready for check-in. Staff will ask for it at the lobby as part of the entry process.

You'll pass through a metal detector before entering the visiting room. Three failed attempts means you're denied entry. Think ahead about jewelry, belt buckles, underwire bras, or anything else that might set it off.

  1. Get the DOC-2424 form - Use the DOC-2424 Visitor Requesting Accommodations form to request help if a medical appliance or assistive device prevents you from clearing the metal detector.
  2. Have your physician complete and sign it - The form must be completed and signed by your physician.
  3. Submit it for approval before you go - Your physician must return it (by fax or mail) to the institution security director for approval before you’ll be allowed entrance.

Quick Prep

  • Bring your photo ID if you’re age 16 or older.
  • Avoid metal-heavy clothing or items that could trigger the metal detector (the entrance process allows only three attempts to clear it).
  • Leave tobacco products behind - Stanley CI is tobacco-free, and tobacco can’t be used on institution property or possessed inside the facility.

Heads-up: Worried about the metal detector? Keep it simple - minimal jewelry, basic clothing. And leave tobacco at home. Stanley CI doesn't allow it on institution property or inside the facility.
