Before heading to any store, take a few minutes to register online. CashPayToday requires you to register both yourself and the person you're sending money to before making a payment. Show up without completing this step, and you'll leave empty-handed.

That barcode is what makes the whole transaction work - get it ready before you leave the house. Once you're logged in, CashPayToday gives you a few options: click your consumer ID to request an email PDF, or click the recipient's name to display the barcode in a new browser window. Want it on your phone instead? Text your consumer ID to 502-410-3373 to have the barcode sent directly to you. One important note: if you're registering for the first time, you must choose email or text delivery. Skip that step, and you won't have the barcode you need at the store.

1. Bring up your barcode - have it printed or ready on your phone so the cashier can scan it.
2. Tell the clerk the exact amount - say the precise dollar amount you want to send so it’s entered correctly at the register.
