Visiting a Juvenile at Summit County Juvenile Detention: Who Can Visit and What to Expect
Knowing the rules ahead of time makes visiting a juvenile in detention much smoother. This checklist covers who can visit, when to show up, and how to avoid getting turned away at the door.
Only parents, stepparents, or legal guardians can visit during regular in-person visitation at Summit County Juvenile Detention Facility. Visits happen on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays - but your exact time slot depends on which housing unit the juvenile is assigned to. The day alone won't tell you when to show up.
- ✓ Arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled visitation session.
- ✓ Bring photo identification to present to detention staff.
- ✓ Check in on time - if you’re late, your visit will be denied.
Only two visitors are allowed per visit time. If more than two people want to come, decide beforehand who's going in so you don't hit a snag at check-in.
Bringing kids? Plan your supervision carefully. Children cannot be left in the detention lobby without an adult watching them. If you're the only adult, this becomes a problem once you're called back for your visit.
Lobby rule: There should be no loitering in the detention facility lobby before, during, or after visitation, and friends, relatives, or drivers aren’t permitted to wait in the lobby.
Visits last 30 minutes, and you're expected to stay the whole time. Handle phone calls, childcare handoffs, and anything else before you check in.
- ✓ Wear clothing that is not revealing or provocative.
- ✓ If you wear shorts, a dress, or a skirt, it must come to the knee or below.
- ✓ Do not wear tank tops, halter tops, midriff tops, low-cut tops, or anything that leaves bare shoulders or a bare stomach.
