Security screening is part of check-in before any visit. Knowing what to expect with timing, ID requirements, and the screening process makes everything go smoother.

Plan to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled visitation session at Summit County Juvenile Detention. That buffer gives staff time to check you in and complete screening before the visit window begins.

At check-in, you'll need to show photo identification to Detention staff. Double-check that you have it before leaving home. Showing up without ID can cost you the visit.

If you do not have photo ID: Contact Detention Administration to ask about alternative arrangements before you go.

All visitors go through a metal detector. It's a quick, routine check, similar to what you'd experience at a courthouse.

Staff may also use a hand-held wand during screening. This is a normal part of the process for entering the visiting area.

Refusing screening ends the visit: If you refuse to cooperate with searches or metal detector and/or hand-held wand screening, visitation will be denied.

Abusive behavior is a deal-breaker: Visitation will be denied to any visitors who are verbally or physically abusive to staff or juveniles.

Keep your language respectful throughout the visit. Foul language is prohibited during visitation.

Arrive late and you may be turned away. If you're running behind, plan on the possibility that you won't get in.

Front-desk staff can't approve late arrivals on their own. Only a Detention Supervisor can let you in after sign-in time has passed.
