How to Apply for Visiting Approval at Tipton Correctional Center
Before you can visit someone at Tipton Correctional Center, you need to be pre-approved through the Missouri Department of Corrections visiting application. Here's how to get it done and what to expect after you submit.
Visiting someone at Tipton Correctional Center requires pre-approval through the visiting application. Missouri DOC reviews each application and runs a criminal history check before making a decision. Don't make the trip until you have final approval. If you show up before you're approved, you'll likely be turned away at the door, even if you've already submitted your application.
Once a decision is made, the offender is the one who gets notified (not you). They're responsible for letting you know whether you were approved or denied. Confirm with your loved one before you try to schedule or travel for a visit.
What You Need
- ✓ The offender’s Missouri Department of Corrections Identification Number (DOC ID)
If you’re filling out the application for a minor child, follow the Missouri DOC instructions for the Identification Number field. Under Identification Number, choose “other” for the type, then enter “NA” for the number.
- Complete every required field - On the online application, all fields marked with an asterisk (*) have to be filled out before you can submit.
- Agree to follow visiting rules - You’ll be asked to agree to comply with all visiting regulations.
- Consent to search - Part of the required agreement includes consent to search, as part of the visiting process.
- Submit when everything is finished - Double-check your entries, then submit the application when the required items are complete.
Once you finish the application and click "Finish," it's sent electronically for processing. No need to print or mail anything. From here, you just wait for the approval decision.
After you submit, your application is sent electronically to the institutional case manager, who processes the request from there.
The offender gets notified of the outcome and is responsible for letting you know whether you were approved or denied. Until you have that final approval, don't attempt to visit.
A denial isn't necessarily the end of the road. Missouri DOC policy allows denied visitors to reapply after one year. If you believe the denial was a mistake or there's important context that wasn't considered, you can also appeal in writing (see the mailing details below).
Appeal mailing address (denial): If your visiting application is denied, you may send an appeal letter within 30 days to Missouri Department of Corrections, Attn: Deputy Division Director of Adult Institutions, 2729 Plaza Drive, PO Box 236, Jefferson City, MO 65102. Note: another Missouri DOC page lists the same address with ZIP code 65109 for written appeals. Verify the correct ZIP code before you mail anything.
