How to Send Money to Facility
You cannot hand money directly to someone during a visit at Toledo Correctional Institution. All money, packages, and correspondence must go through the facility's mail policy. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction also prohibits bringing cash onto correctional institution grounds, so showing up with money to drop off won't work.
Don't try to slip cash into a letter. Incoming mail is inspected and screened for cash, checks, money orders, and other contraband. Staff may open, copy, and scan mail. If they find payment items tucked inside, it can create serious problems for your loved one.
Note: Since you can't give money in person, can't bring cash onto the grounds, and mail is screened for payment items, use the ODRC-approved deposit process. Contact the institution directly if you're unsure which method to use.
Steps to Follow
- ✓ Confirm you are on the incarcerated person’s approved visitor list before you try to deposit funds.
- ✓ Use the approved ODRC process to deposit money to the person’s account (do not try to hand money to them at visitation).
- ✓ Do not attempt to bring cash onto facility grounds.
Before sending anything, verify which ODRC-approved deposit method Toledo Correctional Institution requires and what information you'll need. Double-check how the mail rules apply to any payment method you're considering. Remember: incoming mail is inspected for cash, checks, and money orders, and staff may open, copy, and scan it.
- ✓ Are you on the incarcerated person’s approved visitor list (required to deposit funds using the approved ODRC process)?
- ✓ Which approved ODRC deposit method(s) are accepted for this facility, and where do you start the deposit?
- ✓ Are you clear on what is prohibited, including bringing cash onto institution grounds and including cash or other payment items in mail that will be screened?
