Visiting Someone During Reception at Toledo Correctional: What's Different

"Reception" is the intake period when someone first arrives and gets processed before settling into the regular routine. Visits work differently during this time - expect an extra waiting period, a "courtesy" first visit, and tighter limits on how often you can come and how many people can visit at once.

At Toledo's reception center, visits don't start right away. No one in reception can receive visitors during their first eight days. If you're planning travel, factor in that waiting period so you don't show up before they're eligible.

Visiting Someone During Reception at Toledo Correctional: What's Different

After the eight-day wait, your first visit is handled differently. It's considered a "courtesy visit" - you won't be allowed back until your visitor application is approved. Think of this first visit as your chance to submit paperwork and start the approval process. Then you wait for approval before returning.

  • Complete Visitor Application (DRC2096)
  • Signed Declaration of Understanding (DRC2554)
  • Signed General Visiting Instructions (DRC2274)
  • Copy of your bona fide identification

Reminder: Even though it's a courtesy visit, bring the required forms and a copy of your bona fide ID. Missing paperwork slows down approval and delays your next visit.

Reception visits are more restricted than regular visitation. Each approved visitor can have two sessions per calendar month. Even after approval, plan for a maximum of two visits per month.

Group size matters too. A maximum of five visitors can visit at one time - and that count includes walking children. Larger families will need to rotate who goes in for each session.

Tip: Coordinate with family ahead of time. Make sure you don't exceed five people, and avoid using up someone's two monthly sessions too early.

Timing matters during reception visits - you must get processed within set windows. Visitor processing runs 8:00am–9:15am and 11:00am–1:00pm. Arrive outside those windows and you may not get checked in for that session.

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King Day
  • Presidents Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day
  • Juneteenth

Plan ahead: Build your trip around the processing windows (8:00am–9:15am and 11:00am–1:00pm), and avoid state holidays - reception visitation is closed on those days.
