Posting Bail at Trumbull County Jail: Surety, 10% Bonds, Personal Bonds, and the $25 Fee
Posting bond is stressful—especially when you're rushing and can't afford mistakes. Trumbull County Jail accepts three bond types, and the payment rules are strict. Here's what you need to know before you go.
A Personal bond (also called a Signature bond or PR bond) isn't something you can pay for at the jail window. Only a judge can issue one, typically after the defendant appears in court. If your loved one hasn't had their court date yet, this option probably isn't available.
A Surety bond involves a bail bondsman. To post one at Trumbull County Jail, you'll contact a licensed bondsman who writes a bond for the full amount set by the court. The bondsman guarantees that full amount to the court on your behalf.
The jail also accepts a "10%" bond (sometimes called a premium-style bond) - you pay 10% of the total bond amount set by the court. Note that when using a bondsman for a surety bond, they also typically charge 10% of the total bond as their fee.
Posting a 10% bond or handling payment for a surety bond? Bring a money order. Trumbull County Jail requires money orders for these bond types, and staff will make it out to the court.
Heads up: Trumbull County Jail does not accept cash, checks, or credit cards for posting bonds at this time.
On top of the bond amount or bondsman fee, Trumbull County Jail also charges an additional bond fee in certain cases. Their posted policy states that 10% bonds and surety bonds require a $25.00 bond fee.
Going through a bondsman means you're posting a surety bond. The bondsman writes the bond for the full court-set amount. They'll typically charge 10% of that total as their fee. On top of that, the jail adds a $25.00 bond fee for both 10% and surety bonds.
Cost reality check: With surety/10% bonds, expect both the bondsman’s typical 10% fee and the jail’s $25.00 bond fee.
Once bond is posted, there's no set release schedule. Trumbull County Jail releases inmates around the clock - 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Release happens when correctional officers have the paperwork ready and can complete the book-out process.
