What You Can (and Can't) Drop Off for an Inmate at Trumbull County Jail
Dropping items off at a jail sounds simple—until you show up with something they won't accept. Here's what Trumbull County Jail allows, what needs to go through other channels, and what gets turned away.
Trumbull County Jail is a tobacco-free facility. That means smoking - and even bringing tobacco products or smoking materials onto the property for drop-off - is strictly prohibited. For the items the jail does allow you to bring in person (like prescription glasses), you’ll drop them at the Front Desk or Central Control.
Most of the everyday things families want to bring - extra clothing, hygiene items, personal property - aren't handled as front-desk drop-offs. At Trumbull County Jail, clothing and personal items go through commissary instead. Books don't come through the front desk either: they must be softback and sent directly from a bookstore.
If your loved one needs prescription glasses, drop them off at the Front Desk or Central Control (the window with the phone). Include the inmate's name and attach the prescription to the glasses - staff won't accept them otherwise.
Don’t skip the prescription: No glasses will be accepted without a prescription attached, and reading glasses are not permitted.
Trumbull County Jail does not accept prescription medication as a standard drop-off item.
If someone truly requires medicine to be brought in, medical staff will contact the appropriate person with specific instructions. If you haven't been contacted, don't assume you can bring it to the front desk.
Books are allowed, but they have to follow the jail's process. Inmates can have two books per stay. The books must be softback and sent through a bookstore - you can't drop them off at the desk.
Clothing is only accepted in one situation: if the inmate has a jury trial coming up, you can bring clothes for them to wear to court. Otherwise, plan on clothing and personal items being purchased through commissary rather than dropped off.
Prohibited Items
- ✓ Reading glasses
- ✓ Any tobacco products or smoking materials
