Before Your First Visit to Tulsa County Jail: What to Bring and What to Leave Behind

Your first visit to the David L. Moss Criminal Justice Center (Tulsa County Jail) will go a lot smoother if you show up with the right ID and as little else as possible. This guide will help you avoid bringing something that gets you stopped at the door or turned away at the metal detector.

If you're 18 or older, bring a photo ID. Tulsa County Jail (DLMCJC) accepts a state driver's license, state ID, federal ID, military ID, or school ID, as long as it has your photograph on it.

You'll also need to submit the DLMCJC Visitor's Request Form before you can visit. The jail uses that form to run a background check, then approves or denies your request within 10 days of receiving it.

Expect to be searched before your visit. Screening involves hand-held scanning devices and a stationary metal detector. If you can't pass through successfully, you won't be allowed in.

You can refuse a search, but that means you won't get into the facility. If you have something on you that won't clear the scanner, leave it behind before you reach the checkpoint.

Lobby Dresslockers

  • Gloves, coats, jackets, hoodies
  • Hats, caps, or other head coverings (religious coverings are excluded)
  • Clothing that unduly exposes the stomach, back, shoulders, chest, midriff, or underarms
  • Extremely short skirts or shorts (including items higher than mid-thigh, and items more than three inches above the knee when seated)
  • Clothing associated with street gangs, or clothing with obscene or distracting messages
  • Extremely tight clothing, off-the-shoulder styles, or anything that exposes any part of the breast
  • Spandex clothing, including swimsuits

Note: Gloves and outerwear (coats, jackets, hoodies) can't be worn past the lobby area. DLMCJC provides secure lockers where you can store these items.

Keep personal items to a bare minimum. Nothing goes past the last metal detector: no cell phones or mobile devices, no food, no beverages, no tobacco products. Phones, computers, and similar electronics are also prohibited during visits unless specifically authorized by the Sheriff or Jail Administrator.

Anyone wearing an ankle monitor will be denied access to the facility. If that applies to someone in your group, plan ahead so you don't make the trip only to be turned away.

DLMCJC also limits how often visits can happen. You can only visit one inmate per week, and each inmate is allowed one visit per week unless the Jail Administrator grants a special visit in writing. If an in-person visit isn't possible, video visitation is available through a third-party vendor (TechFriends), and you can find scheduling information at JailATM.com.
