Visitation

What You Can Bring to the Visiting Room at Victorville (Clear Bag, Coins, Medication & More)

Victorville keeps the "allowed items" list short. Bring only what's permitted, and you'll get through visiting room check-in with a lot less stress.

Visitor Short List

  • Small clear plastic container or bag, no larger than 8" x 12"
  • Up to $20 in coins (for vending machines)
  • Photo identification

If you need essential medication during your visit, plan ahead. The Visiting Room Officer will not dispense medication for you. You can, however, store your medication at the Officer's Station and retrieve it when needed.

Knowing what your loved one can bring helps avoid delays or problems. At Victorville, inmates are only authorized to carry a small set of personal items into the Visiting Room: a wedding band, a white handkerchief, and a religious medal or religious headgear. Prescription eyeglasses are permitted too, but here's the catch: the eyeglass case is not allowed in the Visiting Room. If your loved one has essential medication (an asthma inhaler or nitroglycerine, for example), they may bring it in as long as it's limited to the amount needed during the visit. That medication is maintained by the Visiting Room Officer.

Eyeglasses reminder: Prescription eyeglasses are allowed, but the eyeglass case is not.

Victorville tracks inmate property closely during visits. At in-processing, the Visiting Room Officer inventories everything the inmate brings in. At out-processing, they check that same list to confirm the inmate leaves with exactly what they arrived with. If any property is found on an inmate that wasn't on the original inventory, it gets confiscated. A confiscation form (along with the property) goes to the Operations Lieutenant, and staff will write an incident report.
