Step-by-Step: Getting Approved for Video Visits at Utah State Correctional Facility
Getting approved for video visits at Utah State Correctional Facility (USCF) comes down to submitting the right information in the right places. Follow these steps to avoid common delays—especially missing ID details or a wrong offender number.
Video visit approval requires two things: completing the standard visitor application and emailing a clear photo of your government-issued ID. The visiting office reviews both together, so plan to do them around the same time.
Mailing tip: If you want a letter in the mail telling you whether you were approved or denied, include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your visitor application when you mail it to the Utah State Correctional Facility Visiting Office (PO Box 165300, Salt Lake City, UT 84116).
Step1 Fill Out Application
- ✓ Your full legal name (first, middle, last, and maiden name if applicable)
- ✓ Your contact information (email and phone number)
- ✓ Your government-issued photo ID details (so staff can match your application to your ID submission)
- ✓ The incarcerated person’s full name
- ✓ The incarcerated person’s offender number
- ✓ The incarcerated person’s housing assignment
- ✓ Your relationship to the incarcerated person
The biggest slowdown? Missing or mismatched information. Common culprits include leaving off the offender number, skipping the housing assignment, or using a nickname on one document and your legal name on another. Keep everything consistent between your application and the ID email you send in Step 2 - it saves you from back-and-forth delays.
- Take a clear, close-up photo of your ID - Use your phone and capture the entire government-issued photo ID in the frame so it’s readable.
- Write the required details in the email - Include the incarcerated person’s full name, offender number, and housing assignment, plus your full name (first, middle, last, and maiden if applicable), email, phone number, and your relationship to the incarcerated person.
- Attach the ID photo and send it - Email the photo and details to the visiting office. Without all of the above information, your approval can’t be reviewed.
Send your ID photo and details to uspvisiting@utah.gov. (Central Utah Correctional Facility uses a different address: cucfvisiting@utah.gov.)
Expect the visitor application to take 6–8 weeks to process. If you're trying to schedule a video visit by a specific date, work backward from that timeline so you're not stuck waiting.
Note: If you want a postal notice of approval or denial, include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your application.
Once approved, you'll need to give 48 hours' advance notice to schedule a video visit. Don't wait until the day before - send your request early.
After you pass the background check, your information gets entered into the video visiting program. You'll receive an email with your username, password, and login instructions.
