Before Your First Video Visit at Duffield: Visitor List, ID, and Camera Rules
Your first video visit goes much smoother when you knock out the
To do a video visit at Duffield, you have to be on the inmate’s approved visitor list. If you’re not on that list, the visit won’t go forward - so don’t wait until the day of your appointment to find out. If you’re unsure whether you’ve been added, have the inmate confirm before you try to schedule.
Once you know you’re approved, plan your timing. Video visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours before the appointment, and you can schedule as far as two weeks ahead. If you’re trying to grab a specific day or time, booking earlier usually makes things easier.
IDs
- ✓ Driver’s license (current or expired)
- ✓ Military or government ID
- ✓ Passport
- ✓ School ID (picture-type only)
- ✓ Immigration card (Mica)
- ✓ Any picture ID issued by a city, county, state, or government agency
Go into your visit assuming it isn’t private. All video visitation sessions are subject to monitoring and recording, so keep your conversation and behavior appropriate for a recorded setting.
Camera rules can end a visit fast. During video visitation, inmates are required to face the camera at all times. If your loved one turns away, covers their face, or moves out of view for too long, the session can be interrupted - so it helps to remind them at the start to stay centered and facing forward.
Facial-recognition warning: The system will turn off the camera if it can’t detect the inmate’s face. If the picture starts cutting out, the quickest fix is usually getting their face fully back in frame - good lighting and a straight-on angle help.
Dress Children
- ✓ Sheer, transparent, net, or mesh clothing
- ✓ Clothing that unduly exposes the stomach, back, shoulders, chest, midriff, or underarms
- ✓ Tight, body-accenting clothing (for example spandex leggings, tank tops, bodysuits)
- ✓ Dresses, skirts, jumpers, or culottes more than four (4) inches above the knee
- ✓ Shorts (not allowed for adult visitors; allowed for minor children)
- ✓ Hats or headgear (unless religiously recognized and approved)
- ✓ Clothing with gang, obscene, or distracting messages, shapes, or designs
- ✓ Clothing resembling security uniforms or inmate clothing
If you’re bringing little ones, plan for the lap rule. Small children age five (5) and younger must remain on the visitor’s lap at all times during the video visitation session, so set up your seat and camera so you can comfortably do that for the whole visit.
- Confirm your visit is scheduled in the allowed window - it must be booked at least 24 hours ahead (and no more than two weeks out).
- Double-check you’re on the approved visitor list - you can’t do a video visit unless the inmate has you approved.
- Have an accepted photo ID ready - use one of the listed ID types (driver’s license, passport, military/government ID, etc.).
- Start the call camera-ready - your loved one needs to face the camera, and the system can shut the camera off if it can’t detect their face.
