What to Bring (and What to Leave) When Visiting WCC: Lockers, Contraband, Children & Service Animals

Visiting someone at WCC goes a lot smoother when you know ahead of time what you can bring onto the property and what has to stay behind. Use this as a quick prep guide covering lockers, vehicle rules, contraband, minors, and the limited service-animal exception.

Travel light. At WCC, all personal belongings must be stored in coin-operated lockers in the Public Lobby or locked inside your vehicle. Nothing classified as a personal belonging is allowed past the Public Lobby. If you show up carrying items you can't take beyond that point, you'll need to turn back and secure them before continuing.

  • Coats
  • Purses
  • Money
  • Jewelry
  • Cameras
  • Cell phones
  • Food and drinks

If you drive to WCC, lock your vehicle while it's in the parking lot. Your car is subject to search while on state property, so assume anything inside could be seen.

Warning: Never leave children or pets unattended in your vehicle. If they're found unattended, your visit will be stopped, you'll be asked to leave the premises, and the visit will still count as one of the inmate's visits for the week.

Contraband and Smoking

  • Drugs
  • Alcohol
  • Cigarettes and other tobacco products
  • Lighters and matches
  • Weapons

WCC takes contraband seriously. Attempting to bring in drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, weapons, or any other prohibited items can result in arrest and criminal prosecution.

No smoking on grounds: Visitors may not smoke anywhere on WCC grounds. Tobacco products and smoking items (including lighters and matches) are considered contraband.

Animals are not allowed on WCC property. The only exception is a seeing-eye dog, and that requires prior authorization from the Assistant Superintendent.

  1. Request authorization before your visit - If you need a seeing-eye dog, get prior authorization from the Assistant Superintendent.
  2. Do not bring other animals onto the property - Animals are not allowed at WCC unless it is an authorized seeing-eye dog.

Bringing a child? Plan for supervision requirements at the door. Minors (17 and under) must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or an authorized adult to visit WCC.

  • Bring the minor’s original birth certificate (the accompanying adult must present it at check-in).
