How to Get Approved to Visit Someone at Western Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center (WRDCC)

You can't just show up to visit someone at WRDCC - you need to be pre-approved first. Missouri DOC runs a criminal history check on every applicant, so approval takes time. Don't wait until the week you want to visit to start the process.

Head to Missouri DOC's Friends and Family portal at https://web.mo.gov/doc/pubVisit/ to start your application. This is where you'll enter your information and request to be added as an approved visitor.

The first thing the application asks for is the offender's ID number. You won't be able to proceed without it. If you don't have it, get it from the person you're visiting or look it up through Missouri DOC records.

Fill out every required field as you work through the form. Before submitting, read the agreement carefully - you're agreeing to follow all visiting regulations, including consent to be searched.

Note: Answer the criminal-history questions thoroughly and honestly. A criminal history check is part of the approval process, and being untruthful can lead to a denial.

During review, Missouri DOC conducts a criminal history check. Because that check is part of the process, it can take time - so if you’re trying to visit on a specific weekend, submit your application as early as you can.

If you’re approved, the person you’re visiting is the one who gets the approval notice, and they’re responsible for telling you. If you’re waiting to plan your first trip, build in time for them to receive that notification and pass the message along to you.

If your visiting application is denied, you can appeal by sending a letter within 30 days to: Missouri Department of Corrections, Attn: Deputy Division Director of Adult Institutions, 2729 Plaza Drive, PO Box 236, Jefferson City, MO 65102.

For questions specific to WRDCC - like whether your paperwork is being routed correctly or who to speak with about the status - call the facility at (816) 387-2158.

If you need WRDCC’s physical address for your records, it is 3401 Faraon St, Joseph, MO 64506.

If you’re trying to reach the chaplain’s office for help or guidance, WRDCC’s chaplain is Efrem Byrd. You can ask for extension 1564 or email Efrem.Byrd@doc.mo.gov.

Note: WRDCC visiting hours are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
