Scheduling a visit at Wheeler Correctional Facility comes down to two things: getting approved first, then submitting your request before the cutoff. Here's how to handle approval, scheduling, changes, and common reasons visits get denied.
Before you can schedule a visit at Wheeler Correctional Facility, you need to be on the approved visitor list. Start by filling out the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Visitation Request Form and submitting it to the facility. Once approved, you can request specific visit dates.
Note: You must be on an offender’s approved visitor list to use any payment method to send money to that offender.
Request your visit through the Georgia DOC visitation request form. This is the only official way to schedule time with someone at Wheeler - don't show up expecting to visit without a confirmed request.
- Use the “Add Visitor” link - Find your previously scheduled visitation, then add the additional visitor(s) to that scheduled visit.
- Use the “Cancel my visit” link - Go to the visitation page, find your scheduled visitation appointment, and cancel it there.
Planning a weekend visit? Submit your request by 5:00 PM on Wednesday of that same week. Miss the cutoff and you'll have to wait.
Holiday visits have a different deadline: 5:00 PM three days before the holiday.
Tip: Put the cutoff on your calendar: Wednesday at 5:00 PM for weekends, and 5:00 PM three days before state holidays.
Your visit can be denied - or your visitation privileges revoked entirely - if GDC suspects a contraband risk. This includes being suspected of bringing contraband, getting caught with it on the premises, or attempting to introduce it into the facility.
Honesty on paperwork matters. Visitation can be denied or revoked if you're deceptive on any visitation-related forms (including the significant other form). The same applies if you've been warned repeatedly about a specific behavior and it continues.
Sometimes visits get disrupted even when you've done everything right. GDC may suspend visitation privileges to address security needs at the facility, which can affect scheduling until those issues are resolved.
Note: The Ombudsman unit does not have the authority to overturn a Warden’s visitation decision.
