Picking Up Your Loved One from Winnebago County Jail and Getting Their Remaining Money

Timing matters for funds and commissary releases. Winnebago County Jail only processes these on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Bond Out Window in the Criminal Justice Center (650 West State Street).

Your loved one won't get cash when they're released. Instead, any remaining balance on their inmate account gets loaded onto a debit card. They'll receive the card as part of the release process and leave with it.

Property goes directly to your loved one at release, unless it was seized as evidence. Have them check everything before leaving - the jail puts the responsibility on the inmate to verify all property is returned, including any medication.

If your loved one gets transferred instead of released, what happens to their money depends on the destination. Transferred to an IDOC location? Their commissary funds follow them there. Transferred to another county or state? The money stays in their Winnebago County Jail account until they either return in person (and receive a debit card) or request a written transfer. To request a transfer, they need to write to the Trust Fund Officer, Winnebago County Jail, 650 W. State Street, Rockford, IL 61102, including the name and address of their current facility and the inmate ID number assigned by that facility.
