How to Schedule an In-Person Visit at Wood County Jail (call by 6 PM, sign up for next date)
Visiting someone in jail takes some planning, especially the first time. At Wood County Jail, the key thing to know: in-person visits must be scheduled by phone, and there's a firm deadline.
Wood County Jail offers two ways to visit: in-person (face-to-face) visits and video visits. If you’re planning to go in person, visitation is held on Tuesday and Sunday.
To schedule an in-person visit, call the jail and reserve a time by 6:00 PM the day before. You can only sign up for the next visitation date - no booking multiple visits ahead or reserving future weeks. Your planning window is tight. Want a Sunday visit? Call by 6:00 PM Saturday. Tuesday visit? Call by 6:00 PM Monday.
Tip: Call earlier in the day if you can. Have the inmate's name and any ID number ready so you can wrap up quickly before the 6:00 PM deadline.
Visits run in groups, with a new group admitted every 30 minutes. For male inmates, the first group enters at 08:00 and the last at 15:30. Each visit lasts 20 minutes. The 30-minute spacing allows time for turnover between groups, so treat your scheduled slot as your anchor and plan around it.
No groups are admitted between 12:00 and 13:00. If you're working around lunch, aim for a slot before noon or at 13:00 or later - those midday times won't be available.
Female visitation runs later. The first group enters at 16:00, the last at 17:30. Same setup: groups every 30 minutes, 20-minute visits. Know which window works for you before you call.
Each inmate is allowed two in-person visits per week, with no more than one per day. If multiple people want to visit the same person, coordinate ahead of time so you don't accidentally use up the weekly visits or double-book.
- ✓ Plan for a maximum of two visitors at a time.
- ✓ Decide ahead of time which two people will go if more family members want to visit.
- ✓ If you’re rotating visitors across the week, keep the two-visits-per-week limit in mind when you schedule.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Have the inmate’s name (and any ID number you have) ready before you call.
- ✓ Know which day you’re trying for (Tuesday or Sunday), and have a backup option in case your first choice is full.
- ✓ Remember you can only sign up for the next visitation date, so time your call around that “next date” rule.
- ✓ Make the call early enough that you’re not racing the 6:00 PM day-before deadline.
Can't get an in-person slot? Video visitation is another option. Schedule video visits online through JailATM.com. It's a solid fallback when in-person times are full or the available slots don't work with your schedule.
Reminder: If you miss out this time, try again during the next sign-up window - Wood County Jail only lets you schedule for the next visitation date.
