The Complete Guide to Yuma County's TextBehind Mail System (What Changed in May 2024)

As of May 13, 2024, all incoming inmate mail for Yuma County Detention Center goes through TextBehind. Send mail to any other address and it'll be returned. Update your address book now - before you drop anything in the mailbox.

For regular personal mail, send everything to TextBehind's P.O. Box using this exact format: (Inmate Name/Jacket Number) Yuma County Detention Center P.O. Box 76550 Highland Heights, KY 41076 Include both the inmate's name and jacket number. That jacket number is how they match your mail to the right person.

Tip: Write the inmate's name and jacket number clearly, and copy the P.O. Box address exactly. Small mistakes can delay your mail - or get it sent back.

When your letter arrives, TextBehind scans it. Your loved one sees the scanned version on their inmate tablet once TextBehind releases it. After scanning, the original paper and any photos are destroyed. Don't mail anything you'd need back.

Sending photos? Keep it to 10 per package - that's TextBehind's limit. More than that risks rejection. Split larger batches into separate mailings.

Size Material Limits

  • Keep everything letter-size - no correspondence larger than 8½ x 11 inches.
  • Use thin paper - the Detention Center will not accept correspondence on paper thicker than light card stock.
  • Remember it has to be scannable - since TextBehind scans mail for tablet viewing, stick to simple, flat paper items that can run through a scanner cleanly.

Books and magazines work differently. Friends and family can still purchase them from reputable publishers or sources, but they must ship directly from the publisher/source to the Detention Center - not to TextBehind's P.O. Box.

Certain legal paperwork requiring original signatures can still go straight to the Detention Center. For non-attorney legal mail (court documents, forms), mark the envelope clearly as "Non-Attorney Legal Mail" - otherwise it gets returned. Attorney legal mail has separate rules: use preprinted or pre-stamped envelopes, or metered postage. Don't bind, staple, or fasten anything.

Money orders and certain checks also go directly to the facility. You can mail cashier's checks, tribal checks, and postal or telegraphic (Western Union) money orders via U.S. mail to: Yuma County Detention Center Inmate Accounts (Inmate Name/Jacket Number) 200 W. Court Street Yuma, AZ 85364 Always include the inmate's name and jacket number so the funds credit the right account.

Before you send photos or keepsakes: Originals are destroyed after scanning, and packages max out at 10 photos. Only mail copies you're okay losing.

Want to skip mailing originals altogether? Your loved one may be able to receive emails through Inmate Sales. Set up an account online or call 1-702-829-3001 for help (Monday–Friday: 8 AM–12 AM ET; Saturday: 10 AM–9 PM ET).

Mail getting returned? Don't know the jacket number? That number is required for the TextBehind address format. Call the Detention Center at (928) 782-9871 to get it, or to ask about a returned mailing before you resend.
