Bring your driver's license and keep it with you the entire time you're on the complex. You'll also need to complete the Visitor Log when you enter and again when you leave at Building One. Plan a few extra minutes for this sign-in and sign-out step.

After you’re screened and registered, you’ll be issued a visitor badge. Wear it at all times while you’re on the secure side, since the badge is how staff can quickly tell you’ve already been checked in.

Aim for business casual. Jeans are fine, but shorts are not allowed. If a supervisor decides your clothing is inappropriate, you'll be asked to leave and come back in something else. Dress conservatively your first time to avoid any issues.

First-degree contraband (Class D felony): Knowingly bringing dangerous contraband into the detention center, including firearms, knives, drugs, lighters, and similar items, can be charged as promoting contraband in the first degree (KRS 520.050).

Second-degree contraband (Class A misdemeanor): Even everyday items like pictures, candy, gum, pens, pencils, or tobacco can lead to a promoting contraband in the second degree charge (KRS 520.060) if you knowingly introduce them into the detention center.

Leave your cell phone behind. Cell phones are prohibited on the secure side of the buildings, with limited exceptions for authorized staff, attorneys, and outside law enforcement.

Program Professional Visitors

Pens and pencils are not allowed on the secure side. If you need to write, flex pens are available upon request. For GED testing, pencils must be pre-authorized by a supervisor and will be counted in and counted out.

At Building One, you'll complete the Visitor Log every time you enter and every time you leave. The detention center keeps this log as an official record. It's also used during emergencies to help clear the buildings quickly.

  1. Put on your visitor badge - you’ll be issued a badge after you’re screened and registered, and you must wear it on the secure side.
  2. Follow the deputy to the assigned visiting area - visitors are escorted to and from visiting areas.
  3. Stay with the inmate until you’re escorted out - remain with the inmate until a deputy arrives to escort you off the secure side.

Denied entrance: If you appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you may be denied entrance to the secure side.
