Dodge State Prison Visiting Hours: When You Can (and Can't) Visit
Dodge State Prison visits follow a set schedule, and request deadlines can sneak up on you. Here's the exact breakdown for general population vs. segregation, plus cutoffs for weekends and state holidays.
General population visitation at Dodge State Prison is held on Saturdays, Sundays, and State Holidays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. If you’re planning a weekend trip, build your day around that window so you’re not rushing through check-in or missing your time.
Visiting someone in segregation? The schedule is different. Segregation visitation at Dodge State Prison runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM - and it doesn't happen on holidays. That two-hour window goes fast, so plan to arrive early and keep your schedule flexible.
Note: Segregation visits are Tuesdays and Thursdays only, and they are not held on State Holidays.
To request a visit at Dodge State Prison, submit a request through the Department's visitation request form. That form is your starting point for getting on the calendar. Don't wait until the last minute - especially if you're aiming for a specific weekend or holiday.
Weekend visits have a hard cutoff: your request must be in by 5:00 PM on the preceding Wednesday. Miss that deadline and you're looking at the following weekend instead.
State Holidays have their own deadline - your request must be submitted by 5:00 PM three days before the holiday. If you're traveling or coordinating with family, count backward on the calendar and get that request in early.
Heads up: Visitation can be refused, denied, or revoked if someone is suspected of introducing contraband or is caught with contraband on the premises. Visits can also be suspended when the facility has special security needs.
Visits can also be denied or revoked for paperwork and behavior issues. If you're found to be deceptive on the significant other form, or if you've been repeatedly warned about a particular action, visitation can be denied and/or revoked. The takeaway: be accurate on forms and take staff warnings seriously. Those notes follow you.
Not everyone who wants to visit counts as "immediate family." Friends, pastors, and other non-family contacts may qualify as significant relationship visitors, but the offender has to initiate the Significant Relationship Visitor Application for approval. One more reason to get the visitor approval process right: you must be on an inmate's approved visitor list to use any payment method to send them money.
- Confirm the visit type and schedule - Make sure you’re using the right hours for the person’s status (general population vs. segregation) before you assume the facility is “closed.”
- Review what you submitted - If your visit was denied, double-check the information you entered on the Department’s visitation request form for errors or anything that could be seen as deceptive.
- Consider recent issues that trigger denial or suspension - Contraband concerns, repeated warnings about a specific action, or special security needs at the facility can all lead to a visit being refused, denied, revoked, or temporarily suspended.
- Resubmit a corrected request if needed - If you spot a mistake or need to try for a different date, submit a new request through the Department’s visitation request form and stay mindful of the cutoff times.
