Franklin County Jail Visits and Phone Calls: Setting Up a PayTel Account and Scheduling Visits

Franklin County Adult Detention Facility no longer allows in-person visits. The only exception? Attorney visits. Family and friends will need to use PayTel for phone or video contact instead.

Attorney visits: In-person visits are limited to attorney-related visits for the detainee.

Franklin County uses Pay Tel Communications Inc. for all detainee phone and video services. Your first step is setting up a PayTel account - once the detainee adds you as a contact, you'll be able to schedule calls and video visits.

How to Create Account

  • Call PayTel at 1-800-PAY-TELL (800-729-8355) to set up your account.
  • Create your account online at paytel.com.
  • Use the PayTel kiosk in the detention facility lobby (free kiosk option).

If you can get to the detention facility in person, PayTel kiosks in the lobby offer free phone and video visitation. These kiosks are a good option if you'd rather handle setup face-to-face instead of online or by phone.

Before scheduling anything, the detainee has to add you as a contact. Once that's done, schedule your PayTel phone or video visit at least 24 hours in advance - this gives you the best chance of getting the time slot you want. The free lobby kiosks work for scheduling too.

  1. Get added as a contact - the detainee must add you before you can schedule.
  2. Set up your PayTel access - use 1-800-PAY-TELL (800-729-8355), paytel.com, or the free PayTel kiosk in the detention facility lobby.
  3. Schedule at least 24 hours ahead - book your phone or video visit 24+ hours in advance to secure your preferred time.

Attorney visits are the one exception to the no in-person policy. If you're an attorney arranging a visit - or believe your situation qualifies - contact the facility directly to learn the proper process.

Stuck? Check two things: your PayTel setup and your scheduling timing. Make sure your account is created through PayTel (call 1-800-PAY-TELL (800-729-8355) or sign up online), then confirm your visit is booked at least 24 hours out. That 24-hour window matters, especially for popular time slots.

Quick fix: Visit not showing up? Confirm your PayTel account is active, then double-check that your booking is at least 24 hours in advance.
