Prepare a mailed money gift for someone at Goose Creek Correctional Center
Before buying a cashier’s check or money order for someone at Goose Creek Correctional Center, check whether you qualify to send it. Only approved visitors or verified immediate family members listed in ACOMS may send monetary gifts. This guide explains the eligibility, payment and envelope requirements dated August 11, 2022.
Under Goose Creek’s August 11, 2022 mail requirements, you can send a monetary gift for deposit into a prisoner’s account only if you are one of their approved visitors or a verified immediate family member listed in ACOMS. Being a family member alone does not meet that requirement.
Monetary gifts may not exceed $500 in a single month without prior approval from the Superintendent or designee.
Prepare your mailed gift using a cashier’s check or money order. The name on it must match the sender named in the envelope’s return address. Anonymous donations, personal checks and cash are not accepted through the mail system.
Your gift also needs an envelope that meets Goose Creek’s mail requirements. Mailroom staff will not accept envelopes that fail these requirements. Check the following as you prepare yours:
- ✓ A white, commercially produced envelope no larger than 9 by 12 inches; the size restriction excludes privileged mail.
- ✓ Paper no heavier than 24 pounds, without security-screening features, cardboard, padding, corrugation or tear-resistant material.
- ✓ A return address that includes your first and last name.
- ✓ Writing in graphite pencil or regular black or blue ink only.
- ✓ No drawings or extra markings.
- ✓ No adhesive labels, stickers or other adhesive attachments, except labels and stickers affixed by the U.S. Postal Service.
Use sufficient, authorized postage. Mail with unauthorized or insufficient postage will be refused and returned to the U.S. Postal Service.
