Understanding Sheriff’s Sales in Huron County: How the Online Auctions Work

Huron County posts sheriff's sales on the Official Public Sheriff's Sale Website: https://huron.sheriffsaleauction.ohio.gov. Want to confirm whether a property is actually scheduled? Start there.

The county moved sheriff's sales online starting August 22, 2022. Auctions now happen through the online platform - no more in-person courthouse sales.

Online foreclosure sales happen Mondays at 10:00 AM. Plan your prep around that weekly schedule so you're registered and ready before bidding opens.

You can't just show up and start bidding. First, register with RealAuction. Then place your required deposit online. Only after both steps can you participate.

Note: Remote bids from plaintiffs are no longer accepted in Huron County sheriff’s sales. Also, if the property is residential and the purchaser is the judgment creditor, that purchaser doesn’t have to make a sale deposit.

Deposit Brackets

  • Appraisal of $10,000.00 or less: $2,000.00 deposit
  • Appraisal more than $10,000.00 but less than or equal to $200,000.00: $5,000.00 deposit
  • Appraisal more than $200,000.00: $10,000.00 deposit

After winning, pay any remaining balance by bank certified check or money order, made payable to the Huron County Sheriff's Office. Sort out your payment method ahead of time - don't wait until the last minute.

Don't pay the balance? Your deposit is forfeited to the plaintiff. In Huron County, that money goes toward advertising and reselling the property, plus interest charges.

Two rules that catch people off guard: Remote bids from plaintiffs are no longer accepted. And if the property is residential and you're the judgment creditor, you don't need to make a deposit.
