How to Get on an Inmate’s Visitor List at Lee County Jail (and why updates are limited to every 4 months)

At Lee County, visiting starts with the INMATE VISITATION LIST. Your loved one fills this out and can include up to five (5) names - family or friends they want to see. If your name isn't on it, you won't be able to visit.

Being on the list is just the first step. Each session allows only two (2) visitors, and staff check names against the inmate's list at check-in. You can't just show up and hope - your name has to match exactly what the inmate submitted.

Visitation time is limited, so planning matters. Each inmate gets two (2) visits per week, one (1) hour each. If multiple people want to see the same person, coordinate ahead of time - figure out who's using those two weekly sessions and which two visitors will attend together.

Here's the tough part: an inmate can only update their visitation list once every four (4) months from the day they sign up. If someone gets left off, or a wrong name goes on, you could be waiting months before it can be fixed.

Plan changes carefully: Adding a name or removing a name counts as an “update.” If the inmate makes a change, that uses the update allowed under the four-month limit.

A few people don't need to be on the list. The facility makes exceptions for clergy and attorneys. Infants under one year old are also exempt - they don't need to be listed and don't count toward the two-visitor limit per session.

Practical Tips

  • Register and schedule visits through the Visitation Program (GTL)
  • Use the GTL site/app for scheduling and for remote video visits (the Lee County GTL portal is listed as https://leecountyfl.gtlvisitme.com/app)
  1. Check in at the kiosk - On visitation day, you’re required to check in at the kiosk.
  2. Confirm your ID 15 minutes early - You must confirm identification at the visitation desk 15 minutes prior to your scheduled visitation time.
  3. Bring an accepted photo ID if you’re 16+ - Visitors 16 years of age and older must present a valid photo ID with a date of birth (driver’s license, identification card, passport, military ID, or prison ID).

Lee County visits are done by video monitor for the Jail, Core, and Community Program Units (CPU's) - expect video visitation, not in-person contact. Bringing a minor? They must be accompanied by an adult at all times during the visit. Visitation hours run Monday–Sunday, 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., and all visits for Lee County Corrections facilities take place at the Visitation facility on the Ortiz site.

Tip: Because the list is capped at five names and can only be updated every four months - and any add or removal counts as that update - have the inmate double-check the final choices before they change anything.

Can't find the answer you need? Lee County Corrections suggests using the website search or the Contact tab to email questions. You can also call 239-477-1000. Keep notes on what you asked and when - especially if you're dealing with a visitor-list issue tied to that four-month update window.
