Video Visits at Lee County Jail: Step-by-step scheduling, check-in, and what to expect
Video visits at Lee County are straightforward once you understand the limits and check-in process. This guide walks you through scheduling via GTL, checking in at Ortiz, and avoiding common last-minute surprises.
At Lee County, visits for the Jail, Core, and Community Program Units (CPUs) happen through a video monitor. Each inmate gets two video visits per week, and each session lasts one hour. You can have up to two visitors on the call - though infants under one year old don't count toward that limit.
In-person video visits take place at the Visitation facility on the Ortiz site. Before making plans, confirm you're eligible: each inmate maintains a visitation list with up to five names, and staff check your name against that list before approving entry.
First, register for the Lee County Visitation Program through the GTL portal. Once registered, you can schedule your visit there. Remote video visits are also available through the same GTL setup.
Keep the limits in mind when picking your time: each visit lasts one hour, and inmates get just two per week. Coordinating with other family members? Plan ahead so you don't accidentally use up both sessions earlier in the week than intended.
- Go to the Ortiz visitation facility - all visits for inmates at Lee County Corrections facilities are conducted at the Visitation facility located on the Ortiz site.
- Arrive at least 15 minutes early - you’re expected to be there before your scheduled time so you can complete check-in.
- Check in at the kiosk - this is part of the required process on visitation day.
- Confirm your ID at the visitation desk - staff will verify your identification before you’re allowed to visit.
- ✓ Driver’s license (must show your date of birth)
- ✓ State identification card (must show your date of birth)
- ✓ Passport (must show your date of birth)
- ✓ Military ID (must show your date of birth)
- ✓ Prison ID (must show your date of birth)
- ✓ If your photo ID does not display your date of birth, you will not be permitted to visit
Having the right ID and a scheduled time isn't enough - you also need to be on the inmate's visitation list. Inmates can add up to five names, and only those people can visit. The exceptions: clergy, attorneys, and infants under one year old.
Sessions run up to one hour. Lee County allows two one-hour video visits per week per inmate, with a maximum of two visitors per session. Bringing a baby? Children under one year old don't count toward that two-visitor cap.
Juveniles: Minors must be accompanied by an adult at all times during the visit.
At check-in, staff verify that your name appears on the inmate's authorized visitation list. If you're not on it - and you're not an attorney, clergy member, or infant under one - you won't be allowed to visit.
If your visit doesn't start or gets cut short, head back to the GTL portal and reschedule through the Lee County Visitation Program. Remote video visits use the same system.
Visiting at Ortiz? Build in extra time for the kiosk and ID check. Arriving at least 15 minutes early helps ensure you don't miss the start of your session.
Need help: For general corrections questions, use the site search, send a message through the Contact tab, or call 239-477-1000.
Lee County visitation hours run Monday through Sunday, 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. That wide window makes it easier to find a slot that works around work, school, or childcare.
When choosing a time, remember the weekly limit: two one-hour visits per inmate. If you're sharing visits with other family members, coordinate so those two sessions go to the people - and days - that matter most.
