How to Apply for Visitation at Lumley Unit: Step-by-Step Guide

This guide is for anyone who wants to be approved for visits at Lumley Unit - or needs to be added to receive phone calls. Either way, you'll submit the Application to Visit an Inmate electronically.

Warning: Don’t submit a visitation application while the inmate is in the intake process at Alhambra or Perryville.

Start by completing the Application to Visit an Inmate electronically. Take your time and fill out every field carefully before hitting submit. This same form covers both in-person visitors and people who will only receive phone calls.

How to Apply for Visitation at Lumley Unit: Step-by-Step Guide

Adults applying for in-person, phone, or video visits pay a one-time, non-refundable $25 background check fee. You'll need your Application Visitor ID number to submit payment, so don't start this step until you have that ID in hand.

You can pay through any of three approved vendors: Keefe, JPay, or GTL. Depending on the vendor, payment options include storefront/walk-up, phone, mobile app, or online.

Tip: Have your Application Visitor ID ready before you pay. The $25 background check fee is one-time and non-refundable for adult applicants, and the payment must be electronic.

Don't let the clock run out. Any background check fee and required supporting documents must arrive within 30 days of your application date. Miss that window and your application won't be processed.

Once payment and documents are received, expect up to 60 days for your application to be processed.

Note: During Department of Corrections system changes, you may experience extra delays in application processing.

When a decision is made, the inmate hears first. It's then their responsibility to let you know whether you were approved or denied.

Quick Checklist

  • Submit the Application to Visit an Inmate electronically (this applies to potential visitors and people who will only receive phone calls).
  • Keep your Application Visitor ID number - you’ll need it if you have to pay the background check fee.
  • If you’re an adult applying for in-person, phone, or video visits, be ready to pay the one-time, non-refundable $25 background check fee electronically.
  • Make sure any required supporting documents (and any applicable fee) are received within 30 days of the application date, or the application won’t be processed.
