How to Get Approved to Visit Someone at Moberly Correctional Center (and What to Do If Denied)
Visiting at Moberly Correctional Center starts with approval. You need to be pre-approved before you can visit, and the fastest path is a complete, honest application.
You must be pre-approved to visit an offender at Moberly Correctional Center. The good news? The process is straightforward once you know where to apply, which fields matter most, and what to do if your application gets denied.
Missouri DOC allows several categories of people to apply. Immediate family includes a spouse, legal guardian, parents, in-laws, siblings, children, grandparents, and descendants (great-grandparents, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc.). Extended family like uncles, aunts, and cousins can also apply, along with significant others, friends, and clergy.
One-offender rule: Visitors may only visit one offender. The exception is if you're an immediate family member of more than one offender.
Most people apply through the Missouri DOC online visitor application portal (the Friends and Family website). Use that online application unless one of the specific exceptions below applies to you.
- ✓ Applying for clergy status
- ✓ A minor visitor applying for an offender who is restricted to “Adult Only”
- Enter the offender ID number. This is Step 1 of the online application, and it needs to match exactly.
- Continue the application only after the ID is correct. A wrong ID can route your application incorrectly and slow everything down.
Adding a minor child? Follow the application's special instructions for the identification section. Under Identification Type, choose "other." Under Identification Number, enter "NA."
- ✓ Complete every field marked with an asterisk (*). Those are required fields.
- ✓ Agree to comply with all visiting regulations, including search.
- ✓ Fill out the application thoroughly and honestly. That is part of being considered for visiting.
Heads up: A criminal history check is part of the visiting application process.
After you complete the online form and click "Finish," the application goes electronically to the institutional case manager, who processes it once received.
Once a decision is made, the offender gets notified of the visiting approval. They're responsible for passing that news along to you, so make sure they know you applied and are watching for the update.
Visiting hours: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday sessions run 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Write your appeal letter. If your visiting application is denied, you can appeal.
- Mail it within 30 days. The appeal must be sent by the applicant within 30 days.
- Send it to the Deputy Division Director of Adult Institutions. Use this address exactly:
- Missouri Department of Corrections
- Attn: Deputy Division Director of Adult Institutions
- 2729 Plaza Drive, PO Box 236
- Jefferson City, MO 65102
If you are denied and do not appeal, or if the denial stands after review, you can reapply for visiting status after one year.
Troubleshooting
- ✓ Leaving asterisked (*) required fields blank
- ✓ Not agreeing to comply with visiting regulations, including search
- ✓ Not completing the application thoroughly and honestly
- ✓ Entering the offender ID number incorrectly
- ✓ For a minor child visitor, not selecting “other” and entering “NA” in the identification section
