New Haven Correction Center Visiting Rules: What You Need to Know Before You Go
Visiting someone at New Haven Correction Center is doable, but the rules are strict and details matter. This guide will help you plan ahead so you don't get turned away at the door.
Visits are capped at 30 minutes "until further notice." The facility says this allows time for disinfecting between visits. Even if you're hoping for a longer conversation, plan around that short window and prioritize what matters most.
Only two visitors are allowed per in-person visit, and that count includes children. If you’re traveling as a larger group, decide ahead of time who will go in for that visit so you’re not trying to sort it out in the parking lot or at check-in.

If your visit is approved as a contact visit, you’re allowed a brief embrace and kiss at the beginning and at the end of the visit. Keep it quick - think hello and goodbye - so you don’t risk staff ending the visit early or stepping in during your time together.
Note: All non-contact visits are recorded by the facility.
Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visit so you have time to check in. The facility runs on a tight schedule, and if you’re late, your visit may be shortened or canceled.
Bring a valid photo ID. Staff check identification at the door, and you won't get in without it.
- ✓ If the visitor is under 16: bring a valid birth certificate
- ✓ Also bring one additional document with the child’s name (for example, a report card or Social Security card)
Leave your cell phone in the car. Electronic devices aren't allowed inside, and bringing one will slow you down at screening - or worse.
